anniversary #2

today is adam and my wedding anniversary. our second year. it feels really long because we met seven years ago this year. crazy. where does the time go? anyway, i got really lucky because he is a great guy.

this happened this morning.

s: do you have something to say to me?
a: No (it wasnt a regular no.  it was a sassy and a little defensive no).
s: (my eyes water)
a: oooh, happy anniversary

later on at dinner..

a: did you buy me a present?
s: no. did you?
a: no.
s: you haven't bought me a present since 2007.
a: you buy yourself a present all the time.

its true.

wedding weekend

last weekend we were in LA for my brothers wedding.  it was so wonderful.  a magical day. will post more later.

Sharon

I've known Sharon most of my life. She took me to gallery openings, museums, plays, concerts when I was a little girl. I feel like I owe a lot of how I turned out to her.

My mom and I visited her last week after our mother/daughter LA outing.

Anyway, Elena and my brother asked Sharon to officiate their wedding. Her eyes were filled with tears. I can't wait for the wedding. I think it is going to be very cool.

whirlwind weekend

so a few weekends ago i went to two weddings in two different states with two finals (one before and one after).  it was a pretty intense but awesome weekend.  i was in los angeles for 48hours and portland for 24hours.

dinner with family. just my brother and elena. my mom was in Japan for her brothers funeral :(

 i got to do a brief lunch at santouka with yuuki and mavis.

dilemma: weddings

two weddings, two states, finals, one weekend.  can i do it?

about to beg, adam says not to pray for stupid things. haha

rant: thank you cards

does no one send thank you cards anymore (or an email or even a text??)?

two weddings, no thank you cards. if you do anything for your wedding-send a thank you card!

i guess its expected when they didn't get us a gift for our wedding...

santorini

santorini is the most magical place i have ever been too. sorry for the lackluster post (i should probably not be updating while on the honeymoon-but adam won't wake up for a few more hours!). 

we stayed at the San Antonio Suites which adam claims the pictures don't do the place any justice. everything was perfect here. the front desk, the excursions, the spa, the people that worked there and event the other guests! if you ever have a chance to visit santorini and splurge at this hotel. do it! the place is still in a secluded area and not around any of the other tourist hotels. it was great!

update more later. i'm in venice now. the weather isn't cooperating with us and there are a ton of people here!

athens

how to describe greece? i call it a dirtier paris. well the two days spent in athens was pretty awesome. i love europe because the cities are a mix of old and modern. you don't see that in u.s. since it is a new country. i love europe. in my next life, i'd to come back as a european.

oh yeah. food is amazing! i have not had a single bad food while here. everything is fresh and so good.the cheeses-so delicious!

anyway, we got to santorini today. i hope to take some pictures. it is probably the most beautiful place i have been to ever.

airport-bound

birthday round up- i received two phone calls (one being my mom) and two texts for my birthday. how sad is that?

i guess going to europe will be my consolation prize.

my mom says to me yesterday, "you are going to get so fat from all that eating." jeez. well i'm going to pig out!

No Smog at the SmogShoppe

This past Saturday I played a wedding at a very cool Venue in Culver City called The Smog Shoppe. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s certainly worth checking out. http://www.smogshoppe.com/ As the namesake suggest, in the 1980’s it was a smog-check center, but now it’s a 100% solar-powered 6,500 square foot venue playing host to some of the hippest weddings and events around town.
I performed with my Alternative Trio which consist of  Classical Guitar( Me), Cello ( Glenn Grab), and Violin ( Emily Moore). The music that was chosen for the ceremony was really quite unique, and arranged for my trio (which you can hear performing other music on my website www.ryanowenmusic.com ) by me.

Recessional Bride-Composer- Yann Tiersen, Valse ‘d Amelie ( from the movie Amelie)
These are two beautiful choices for anyone looking to do something a little different, and were a lot of fun to perform. I think that when the bride, and groom get involved with music choices (which they did) it becomes a reflection of each individuals personality and in turn makes it a much more personal event.

i bought a spanx bra ($70) and spanx.. spanx are more uglier in person than i thought.

oh yeah, i don't like my dress cause i'm fat!

royal wedding

i was one of the people who was hating on all the coverage of the royal wedding. for some reason i decided last night to wake up early to watch it. i didn't wake up early enough but caught the first kiss. her dress was beautiful.

screens and wedding

the smogshoppe has a screen that people show movies during the wedding. i am "researching" movies that would be appropriate.  we have five kids coming.

i watched the planet earth series.. but i dont want to see a frog/worm/bat while eating.

so we decided on:

1. Bambi: when adam was little, his mom took him to see bambi. during the fire scene when all the animals are fleeing, adam goes into hysterics. his mom thinks it is because the mom dies. :( she told me the story when we first met. adam later told me, that he was probably too young to enjoy it yet. wow bambi was made even before all our parents were born!

2. royal tenenbaums: i like the film shots and the typography (futura!). i can't remember if it was inappropriate.

3. le ballon rouge: i can't remember where exactly i saw this for the first time. i just know i was very young.  i purchased the dvd a few years ago. it makes me cry everytime. adam's aunt did her phd thesis on this film.

ice cream and immigrants

today we received an ice cream maker from adam's friend. anyway, i can't wait to make some ice cream. not yet though, mount pleasant hasn't quite warmed up yet.
