reads

When Adam travels to a foreign country, he always picks up a book about the country. Not a travel guide (well we buy a few of those) but a book written in the country we are visiting, etc.

Since we were visiting Morocco, his book was the Lemon by Mohammed Mrabet.
I on the other hand, like to read crappy girly books. Chick-lit.  It has turned into a tradition for sister Caroline and I.  In Puerto Vallarta we read Emily Giffin books.  She wrote Something Borrowed, Something Blue and a few others.  I read like four of her books in one week.

For Morocco, we both downloaded Fifty Shades of Grey on our electronic readers.  I was embarrassed to read those on the plane thinking the person next to me would know.  I read the book for five hours straight on a train ride.  I'm such a prude I can't believe I read those books.

reading

have you ever read the blog orangette before? i've been reading molly wizenburg's blog for  several years now.  the blog is so lovely, i wish could write as beautifully as her.  very heartwarming posts.

i recently picked up her book called a homemade life. when adam came home, he noticed the book on the living room table and questioned me about it, "where did you get that from?"

i told him i picked it up just because. he thought i was playing some sort of trick on him because he went to grade school with her.  i knew she was from oklahoma but how do you remember first and last names of people you went to elementary school with? he says his school was very small.
another example was Jonah Lehrer. we were kind of obsessed with his books a few summer's ago and ben told us that they were all in the same class at columbia.

resolution

So I didn't keep my resolution to read a book a week last year.  I read like seven books and most of it was Jane Austen from the ten pound complete collection I lugged around on my holiday. The next book I plan on reading is Tom Robbins, Another Roadside Attraction.  When we were in Oklahoma I mentioned to Adam that I need a new book to read and he lend me his Another Roadside Attraction paperback.

Yesterday I was a bit in a nostalgic mood, hence the reading of diaryland posts (so 2003)! I also re-read some of the posts here and I realized that Adam got me my own copy a few years ago for Christmas! I have no recollection of this.

how about some Ed Ruscha. Norm's on La Cienega on Fire a LA roadside attraction.

books!

I adore cookbooks.. actually I love books with pictures (artbooks, photo books, fashion books, etc, etc). I think we have a hefty collection of books in our library. What will happen when we move back to a city and have no room for these books?
Well I didn't think of that when I purchased my newest cookbook.. Miss Dahl's Voluptuous Delights. I think it is vegetarian and has lot's of nice photo's of food. I can't wait to try out some recipes.
I bought Adam a present too. Isabella Rossellini's Green Porno book. If you haven't checked out a video, you should. Soo weird...

still reading...

I've been trying to read books since I listed it as my new years resolution. I'm not a book per week but I'm still reading. I have also been on a Jane Austen kick this year. In Finland I read Pride and Prejudice twice (on the plane and at parks) with the classic books app on my ipod. When I saw Pride and Prejudice in the classic covers at the Museum of Fine Arts I picked up a copy. I own Emma and Sense and Sensibility in these covers also. Am I a hoarder? I have two copies of Pride and Prejudice, plus a copy of Pride and prejudice and zombies, plus apps on my ipod and computer.
Adam thinks I should pick up a 1st edition or something since I love this book so much.
