Mount Pleasant with my family

Adam teaches a class and one of their assignments is to build a cardboard boat.  This year, Adam decided to participate.

Omigod, watching him race was hilarious.  He didn't do as well as everyone imagined. Also, the boat was shaking so hard.  It was really funny.  Better luck next year.

the drive home

I hate flying but airports are one of my favorite places.

This is a photo of our drive home from the airport last week.

The closest international airport is two and a half hours from our house.  It is a bit of a trek just getting there.  I miss the ten minute drive to LAX.

jane goodall

Jane Goodall is coming to speak at CMU in March.  Adam got us tickets to see her.. I just realized I have class that day.. I hope I can go...

we got our first snow storm last night.  it went from no snow on the ground to winter wonderland overnight. 

i'm looking for winter boots for adam.. does anyone know of any cool ones i can get him?

so every year we go to papa's pumpkin patch to pick up pumpkins, cider, apples, etc. this year we got to take sister caroline!

we've got a visitor this weekend. from california. a sister. i am excited. if she isn't too tired we'd like to take her to the pumpkin patch for some cider + donuts and maybe some barbeque?

bicycle

i got a bicycle just in time for the nice weather? here i am at a neighborhood park in mount pleasant (will little neighborhood jaunts help me lose weight?). isn't it lovely? can't wait for the leaves to change color.

i have been asking to go on bike rides so often, adam is very sick of them.  i wish i had some pals to ride my bicycle with... or old friends, come to michigan with your bikes so we can go biking!

someone stole my pink flamingo's from the front yard. apparently it is expected because i live in a college town... neighbors across the street got their lawn furniture stolen..

we had a party last night at the mock-nasu chateau. well a small gathering. it lasted till the am.

now, we are off to start packing for our last vacation for a little while.

i want this hammock!

hot weather

okay, so it is really hot in mount pleasant right now. we took a walk to the post office and i thought i was going to pass out. adam said maybe i've acclimated to the michigan weather.. i definitely prefer the cooler weather, doesn't any normal person?  i just wish i could enjoy it because hot weather is so brief here. the mid-west and east-coasts are suffering from a heat-wave right now(90 is way better than 102 in okc).

we went to sleep with all the windows open so when it started pouring at 2:45am this morning, we got up to close all the windows. we both woke up with headaches. any tips for staying cool? we live in an old house with no air-conditioning. i'm thinking of getting a second fan? is that excessive?

weekend

this past week was one of those weeks that made me so happy to be living in michigan. we went kayaking for the first time on the river (we saw a bald eagle and baby turtles). it was so much fun even though we were pretty terrible at it.

stacy and vannie had us over for impromptu cocktails and ribs after we ran into them at the recycle center and market. the ribs were delicious!

hot

hope you had a wonderful weekend. it is getting hot in mount pleasant.  we did a lot of grilling, watched fireworks, had drinks with our neighbors and took walks around our neighborhood. this is the life.

 tonight we are canoing and doing fireworks!

weekend update

we had an eventful (for us old-sters) weekend in mount pleasant consisting of friends, wine, dinner, neighbors, bbq, beer, boardgames and oh yeah, a rash/irritation from chopping up jalapenos.  yaay michigan!

suger kick

i've been on a bit of a bad sugar kick lately. it is a little sticky in mount pleasant and i wish to be somewhere cooler.. i started using ice cream maker a lot since we've been back (which is a week). i made a cognac ice cream and now we are eating strawberry ice cream.  tomorrow i'm going to make a vanilla bean and a pizza for dinner. um.

i need to lose weight. i'm huge.

studies

i am in the library studying for a photo test tomorrow. i never do well on these tests (because i browse the internets rather than study). it's on the technical stuff. i also have to come up with an idea for my final project. due tomorrow.

when i let adam know about my plans  to study in the library and skip out on our regular sunday errands, you should of seen the smile he gave me.  he was really happy to be getting his alone time.

so instead of studying. i wish i were wading in the water somewhere warm..

spring

spring is here. or so they tell me.

i bought japanese toast at the japanese market in detroit. yeah, i stopped doing lent. i have to for toast.

i'm buying fresh flowers because it makes me feel a little better that warmer days are ahead of me.

 we went shopping, i asked if he needed any honeymoon/travel-wear. he took it seriously and bought all this from jcrew...

funny story

you know i am struggling with the typography class this semester. this class makes me feel like i shouldn't be pursuing graphic design. my teacher is a little vague when it comes to instruction. i know this is supposed to be an upper level class. a lot of times i feel very discouraged. i should try harder because this was the same problem that stops me from doing many things. 

okay, back to my funny story. we went to go see the yes men at the university. my teacher introduces the yes men. he did a little bit and adam liked him. teacher brought his young son and i thought he was so cute (looks about 10). the girls in my class also agreed.

anyway, today i went to the market for groceries and at the house across the street (diagonally) i see my teacher's son playing catch with someone. then he trades sides and i see my teacher. my teacher is my neighbor. weird. 

a few weeks ago i wrote about the weird car crash. that is his house. he said the car accident happened twice in a few years.

dreaming

i have this weird thing where i have to have the house clean before starting homework. i've always done it. maybe it's my add?

this week is technically midterm week (a few more days before spring break). i have to study for type mid-term, have ideas for photo, work on a poster, pick up some envelopes for our invitations. the invites are super expensive and they are selling plain ones for a dollar each so we decided to get them ourselves. i pray that the stores here sell them. <-- wow tangent again. need to pack. i'm at that point where i am just freaking out and not getting a single thing done.

maybe i should turn this into a list:

• study type midterm- how many points in a pica? idk. due 3/3 failed big time
• brainstorm photo (due date 3/2) kind of. need professional help photogs.
• barstow poster (due date 3/17?)
• buy A7 envelopes (by 3/3) purchased 3/2
• pack
• start on adam's suitcase kind of
• fill out worksheet from our wedding planner (due preferably by 3/3)

a slight improvement.

we want a big ol kitchen when we buy a house and one of those professional kitchen hose things.. at the oscar party, i discussed not knowing what we wanted in life with another party-goer. i told her i've always been arty but not talented and now i'm "exploring". she said i should bake. haha. i just had a good recipe. i don't even like baking to tell you the truth. just the easy stuff.

also i would like a big, leather chair made by aiden of course.

okay, back to work. seriously.

natalie portman at the oscars

doesn't natalie portman's rodarte dress remind you a little of the bridesmaid dresses?

yesterday we were invited to a black tie oscar party. i am such a fatty that nothing looked good. adam wore a tux.  he was a front-runner for best dressed.  he came home with this beauty below for getting most right answers on the ballot.  three of us were tied but he won with the tie-breaker.

the party was so much fun. i made a black swan (technically a crane) blackberry cheesecake. it was a hit. i got a shout-out, "i would like to thank the maker of this cheesecake." haha
